• Our Surfside Academy Independent Study program at the middle school level (grades 6-8) is currently housed on the Lincoln Middle School campus in Oceanside.  Our program includes an online curriculum provided by APEX. Students watch video lessons in every subject, learning to take both paper/pencil notes as well as e-notes. While students are in class, they work most often, independently on computers. They will also meet with the teacher one-on-one, weekly, to check progress and receive a weekly progress report for parents to sign. The teacher is available on a daily basis to assist students via phone, email, in person or via video chat platform.

In addition to the online work, students will engage in numerous hands-on and virtual science lab activities as well as digital citizen projects. Students are enrolled in four academic core courses - History/Social Studies, Mathematics, English/Language Arts, and Science.  We offer three schedule options to students.  Examples of schedules students will follow are described below:

    • Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday & Friday students may attend a two-hour block in person from 8-10 am.
    • Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday & Friday students may attend their block 10-12 or 12:30-2:30pm virtually.
    • Pure distance/virtual plan with a daily check in with the student's teacher via Zoom or other video chat platform.
    • On Wednesdays all students work from home.

In complement to our individually designed academic program we also provide access to our on-site Palomar Family Counselor for support when & where it is needed.

We welcome parents to assist & participate in their children's learning.  Additionally, we offer breakfast and lunch for our students. For additional information regarding our middle school program and/or registration information please contact Wendy Kroenke at wkroenke@oside.us.
